Jan. 5th, 2009 @ 05:49 pm Some More Snusa Recs
I realize it's a bit late in the game for recs, but in case you're way behind on your Snupin reading (like me), I did want to post about some of the stories I've really been enjoying.

Taste -- A stunning piece in so many ways. It hit my literary kink for very well executed extended metaphor, and my characterization kink by making Snape exactly the rotten bastard that JKR says he is, but still making him so wonderful that you can't let him go. The exploration of the dark, wolfish side of Remus' nature is so well done, but the real gold here is how the writer shows the way their relationship changes over the years until the end. This will seem dark to some folks, but to me, it was more 'darkly romantic'. Oh, and did I mention that it's also OMFG hot? No? Well, it is! I have a pretty high smut tolerance but this left me squirming and biting my lip. Good stuff on a whole lot of levels.

The Voyage of the HMS Leviosa -- Yes, everyone in the world has rec'd this already, so I'm just tossing my 2 shillings into the pot. I have friends who've been trying to get me read O'Brien's "Master & Commander" books, and if they are anywhere near this good -- even without the slash -- I'm going to have to check them out. Also, I'm a complete whore for a good bibliography -- the sort that sends you scrambling for the uni library website and the ILL button -- and this one has that. If you haven't read this yet, then kiss the gunner's daughter and take 12 lashes from the boy's pussy. XD

Blood Moon -- Draco isn't a character I normally expect to see in Snupin fics. In general, I can take or leave Draco -- usually leave -- unless he's really well done, and here? He is really well done. This writer made me believe Draco would clean Snape's house -- and not even with sexual favors attached. OK, that probably sounds glib, and I really don't mean it to, because while we bandy the word "dark" around a lot, this fic really is dark. Not in a graphic way, though. You'll hear about throats being torn out and blood thrown around, but you won't see it for the most part. It's very restained in that way -- and to good effect, I think. The darkness in this story is the miasma that surrounds Snape and Lupin in this dystopic "Voldemort won" scenario. It's like a whirlpool that they are sucked into against their will, with their only consolation being that they are together. If you shy away from darkfic because of Snape/Lupin death, or graphic rape, non-con, blood or general gore, you can probably read this safely. It is dark, yes indeed, but it's so well done, I must recommend you try it. (And should you need something happy to read afterwards, perhaps a re-read of Magical Magazine would hit the spot? Yes, I already rec'd this, but really, if you haven't read it yet, you should. And it would be an excellent, high-spirited chaser after any dark fic.)

Forbidden Passion: A Soap Opera in Five Acts -- Normally, I'm not one for soap operas, but this? This had exactly the effect on me that soap operas seem to have on so many people: you can't stop watching. Or in my case, I couldn't stop reading. The framing for this story is so clever. Several of our familiar characters -- all of whom are exceptionally well-realized -- are addicted to a particular soap opera in which the usual bizarre and unbelievable soap-opera-type things are happening. As the characters follow their favorite soap -- and the 'excepts' alone are so entertaining they're reason enough to read this -- another soap opera is unfolding around them, and it was just as captivating to me as the 'real' soap was to Rosmerta, Remus and, oh yes, Dumbledore. Aside from the soap opera thing, I had my doubts about Remus as an ultra-femme gay guy -- it's not a way I normally imagine him -- but the writer has done just a fantastic job, following the prompt to the letter but still giving us a very recognizable and believable Remus. This fic really has everything -- it will make you laugh, it will wring your heart, it will make you shake your laptop and scream "What is WRONG with you!" at the characters, it will make you sweat from the UST, and squirm with the very hot and wonderful smex scenes. Even if you don't like soap operas, you have to experience this one.

Five Times Snape and Lupin Had Sex At Order Headquarters... -- How could I not read something where I'm assured of at least five smex scenes? That sort of promise is too good to pass up, and this one definitely delivers. While I will happily admit that I take great delight in PWPs, this one has more to offer than just the sexing. For those of you are familiar with her work, it has just a bit of a [info]fabularasa feel to it -- not in any derivative way, though; and of course I mean that as a high compliment. :) I really enjoyed this, but then, give me a hot, conniving Alpha!Remus who's willing to do whatever it takes to get Snape where he wants him, and I'm more than halfway to happy already. Nom.

I'm probably leaving out some things, but my brain is still fried from the holidays, and I'm still reading Snusas, so this will do for now. There are still 2 days till the Big Reveal, after all. So... what are y'all catching up on?

Jan. 1st, 2009 @ 09:34 pm Starting the New Year Off Right -- with PRON!
This is either my last pron of 2008 or my first of 2009, depending on where you were when I posted it. I guess it's a little of both, actually. Just fic pointing to my [info]daily_deviant Kinky Kristmas post. It's young Sirius/Severus, bondage/frottage. Probably dreadfully fluffy for these two, but NC17, nonetheless.

If you like, here's a handy link to Happy Christmas, Git

Otherwise, I hope everyone is enjoying the start of 2009.

TTFN!

Dec. 25th, 2008 @ 11:00 pm A Very Merry Christmas to my lovely and talented f-list!
To those of you who get some time off, I hope you are having rewarding and relaxing holidays. To those who don't, I hope life is treating you well in any case. I have been in an absolute frenzy of cleaning and cooking and serving and then cleaning again, and FINALLY the real fun can start: kicking back, eating leftovers, nibbling Christmas cookies and relaxing with friends. In fact, we're about to go drive around and look at lights. In the spirit of things, here is a holiday image from last year -- but the tree and cat look the same. :)

Tomorrow my out of town guests and I have our beady little eyes on post-holiday sale at Smith & Hawken, but no other plans. Now that the semester from Hell and the holiday cooking and cleaning frenzy is over, I plan to sit back and finish some fics.

Merry merry kids! Big hugs to all of you for being such cool IJ friends this year, and I *swear* I'll be better about posting next semester. (Only taking 12 hours.) :D

Dec. 23rd, 2008 @ 01:00 am Art Rec: Hot!Remus to the Rescue
OMG guys, you've got to go look at this! This is the latest Snupin Santa posting and it's so beautiful and intense and O HAI IcrediblyHawt!Remus! The cardigan is off and the all-black ninji gear is ON, baby!

Now don't get me wrong. This isn't exactly an erotic piece; it's Remus rescuing a badly abused Severus from Azkaban, but despite the obvious trauma here, this Remus is such a gorgeous mix of daring, strength and passion that it balances out the angst with hope and love. This is an Alpha!Remus who isn't going to allow a little thing like the Law to stand between him and his man, and he's just beautiful. They both are.

Here's a link for Cut Our Bodies Free on E-fiction. Check it out, and if you like it, leave a few words. If you don't want to sign up on E-fiction (which doesn't allow anon comments), you can leave comments on the original posting on IJ here. It's only PG-13 but I'm not sure I'd pop it up on the work computer, unless your co-workers are used to seeing guys smooching on your monitor.

Dec. 20th, 2008 @ 05:54 pm Ipods and I-Touch anyone?
As usual, I turn to my flist when the mysteries of the modern world confuse me.

I'm considering entering the world of Ipods. I was looking at a Nano, but Best Buy is having a sale on the I-Touch. This is the 1st Gen I-Touch, 16GB, for the same price as a 2 gen I-Touch with 8GB. Apparently the only change is something about the volume control. This thing sounds like it would be pretty cool and helpful (calendar, maps, Wi-Fi, etc.) and I'm really leaning towards getting it. It would save me having to haul my laptop around, at least for some things. But if anyone has any opinions on it, I'd like to hear them. Also, it doesn't look like it comes with battery chargers. You have to buy those separtely??? WTF? And since I'm a complete neophyte in the Ipod world, what accessories (aside from a battery charger) am I going to find that I absolutely have to have?

Any help with this would be muchly appreciated. Maybe my resolution for 2009 will be to become less of a Luddite.

Dec. 15th, 2008 @ 10:04 am READ THIS FIC! "An Ecstacy of Fumbling" (Now with link!)
Oh fuck it! I have tried writing a rec for this incredible gift I got from my Snupin Santa like FIVE TIMES and I have erased every one of them. If I say everything I want to say, I'll give away everything about the fic. If I try to keep it short, I think of 5-10 things that have to be mentioned. And I just... GAH! I'm pulling my hair out, because this is SUCH a great story, and everyone needs to read it!

Dec. 15th, 2008 @ 03:35 am READ THIS FIC! "An Ecstacy of Fumbling"

ETA: Here's a link! http://asylums.insanejournal.com/lupin_snape/304961.html

Do you love stories set it post-WWI England, where the cracks are starting to show in the very stiff-upper-lip Edwardian social structure? Did you love shows on Masterpiece Theatre like "Upstairs, Downstairs" or "The Duchess of Duke Street" or even the Agatha Christie mysteries? Do you love well-researched historical AUs where the writer really knows the period and gets the details right? Then READ THIS!

Do you love infidelity fic? Well, it isn't quite infidelity fic, because Snape and Lupin are experimenting with 'seeing other people' and have an agreement, but read it anyway. Do you HATE infidelity fic? Please give this a try! Because it isn't really infidelity, tho it is a bit painful, but if you don't read through the painful part, how can you get to the wonderful hopeful, healing ending? (And the incredibly hot sex that goes with it?) Not convinced yet? Believe me, the infidelity -- such as it is -- is NOT gratuitous. It's there for a reason. Snape and Lupin are both tortured by their pasts (did I mention how well this works with the Potterverse? It really does!) and Remus especially is desperately fumbling for some sort of remedy -- just like the men fumbling for their gasmasks in the poem from which the title is taken. And surely, surely we can forgive him for straying from Severus just a little bit when we get to read an OMFG HAWT smex scene between Remus and hunky, sweaty undergardener Charlie Weasley, right?

Speaking of which, do you love historical AUs where appropriate Potterverse characters are inserted in wonderfully believable ways? Like, where most of the Weasleys are the "downstairs" to Severus and Remus' "upstairs"? Where James Potter and Peter Pettigrew are names on a memorial monument, Sirius is a traumatized ex-POW and Regulus is but a shell-shocked ghost of himself? Where Hogwarts becomes Harrow and Lucius becomes a top-hatted member of the House of Lords and Dora Tonks-Black is a charmingly clumsy socialite whose instincts for finding the 'right sort' of husband are equally clumsy?

If none of that sells you, how about just an incredibly well written story with a strong narrative told from Remus POV, aided by a box of letters that Remus and Severus sent to each other while he was in the trenches? How about a story that explores LGBT issues, social mores, a damaged society and damaged people, all without hitting you in the face with it (i.e. it's quite subtle, okay?) and which explores the soothing/healing nature of love and trust even between damaged people -- without sounding moralizing? No, I wouldn't call this a "feel good" fic -- it's beautifully crafted, fascinating, uncomfortable, disturbing and sexy, but definitely not fluffy -- but it is so emotionally fulfilling and the ending is so perfect that I actually wept. They were good tears, tho. The "it's going to be all right for them" kind of tears.

This is just such a wonderful story that I really, really urge you to go read it. Whoever wrote this -- and I'm dying to know who you are, BTW! -- is a fantastic story-teller. And actually, if you're a writer, that's another reason to read this story. It's so well done, the narrative, characterization, pacing and word-choices are so strong, that you can learn things from reading it. (Believe me, I have my share of notes!)

Really, folks. Don't miss this one. I'd be recommending it even if it wasn't my gift! Thank you, Santa! I don't know what I did to deserve such a great gift (2 years in a row, I might add!) but you can definitely put me on your "very satisfied customer" list!

Dec. 15th, 2008 @ 12:41 am Raul Julia and Rene Auberjonois in the 70s -- now THIS is the way to study!
I have a Shakespeare final on Tuesday, so I picked up the only King Lear at the video store. It's a remastered version of Joseph Papp's production for the NY Shakespeare Festival from 1974, so now I'm watching Raul Julia -- who's maybe, what, 30 here? and fucking gorgeous -- do a really top flight Edmond (the Bastard) and an absolutely adorable and fluffy Rene Auberjonois as his brother Edgar. Odd this may be, but it's a fabulous production. (James Earl Jones is King Lear, but the rest of the cast is just as stellar.)

And of course, seeing Raul Julia looking young and hale and hearty and glorious reminds me that it was just a few years after that I went on a school trip to NYC and saw Mr. Julia playing the lead in Dracula. (Frank Langella was off making the film.) To this day, I have still not seen anything as overwhelmingly sexy as the scene where Dracula comes into Lucy's room, tears his shirt open and makes her drink his blood. Dear God, every person in the audience, male and female both, bent forward in our seats the moment the cloth ripped. Gods in heaven, I wanted to put a brick thru the hotel window in case a vampire like that was flying by.

Did I mention the sets and costume design were all by Edward Gorey? Yeah. Still probably the best theatrical performance I've ever seen in person.

Sorry. Getting nostalgic. Anyway, if you ever feel like watching King Lear -- or, like, take a Shakespeare course and don't want to reread the play -- I recommend this version.

Dec. 13th, 2008 @ 10:46 pm These are family values???
I don't watch a lot of TV, but I'm laid up sick and managed to haul myself to the couch and turn on the TV. I'm watching Narnia on the ABC Family channel (and this is one case where I prefer the movie to the book, btw) and so far I have seen promos for 1) Secret Life of the American Teen where the main plot line seems to be a 15 yo (upper middle class white) girl having a baby, and 2) some Christmas special where people in a really nice house bemoan the fact "there may not be much of a Xmas this year" so (apparently) the kids find a big bag of money and "... I guess it wouldn't hurt to spend a few bucks, right?" And I guess that's alright because apparently the money actually belongs to 'bad' people, so it's okay, right?

So... romanticization of teen pregnancy -- and one only has to look at the dreadful Caley Anderson case going on in Florida to see the one of the worst ways that can turn out -- and stealing because, you know, god forbid there not be just scads and scads of presents for Xmas, right?

Now, like I said, I don't watch a lot of TV, and maybe -- maybe -- these are actually good programs and I'm being unfair. However, just from what I've seen tonight, if I had kids? I'm thinking the ABC Family Channel would be one of the one's I'd block.

Dec. 12th, 2008 @ 09:31 pm A little help? (American Uni and academic folks might know this...)
So, I'm studying for my math final -- which I'm probably going to fail because this has been SUCH an ungodly hard semester, and my brain retains numbers about as well as a colander does water.  But anyway...  I was checking to see where the test is being held tomorrow (b/c I don't remember stuff like that, either) and the university site -- the ENTIRE university site -- is down.  WTF?  Has been for hours now.

Okay, so...  this class is a pass/fail class.  It doesn't -- or rather, it *shouldn't* affect my GPA.  As in, when I took the prior class, I passed it, I got my 3 hours credit, but it didn't give me any points for my GPA.

So... since I'm probably going to fail it anyway, and NOW I can't figure out where it's going to be held anyway (or even get back to the review site)... I'm thinking of just blowing off the test.  Yes, I will fail the class if I do that (but I probably will anyway).  No I won't get my 3 hours credit.  Thing is, I don't need those 3 hours anyway.  They're lower division hours -- and the only lower division hours I need are for my *real* Math class, i.e. the one I'm taking next semester that counts for my core curriculum.

So, does anyone know *for sure* if failing a Pass/Fail class is going to affect my  actual GPA?  (Considering that passing the previous one didn't?)

I realize no one is going to know for sure because no one here goes to my uni, but I'm fine with informed speculation. ;-)  So, do I blow it off and just start writing my classics paper, or haul myself out to the university about 2 hours early tomorrow morning, wander the huge buildings to see if any of them list my class exam, then sit for it (assuming I find it) and fail anyway?

Did I mention I have a cold now and have no intention of sitting up all night hitting the refresh button to see if the uni site will ever come back up? :-)

Dec. 6th, 2008 @ 10:09 am Another Snusa Rec! (And A Letter To The Editors of "Magical Magazine")
I'm aware the the holidays depress some people (the unfortunate gentlemen whose letter I'm reprinting here being one of them), so if you're feeling just the slightest bit blue, RUN, do not walk, to read Magical Magazine: A Snupin Special. Tonk's tale of disguising herself as Lupin to shag her way across Europe -- ostensibly to find a mate for her gay, leg-waxing ex-hubby, but also managing to have some fun herself? Dumbledore as a post-mortem "Dear Abby"? And veteran reporter Fancey Agossip's exclusive interview of our heroes while in a sauna, skimpy towels and all? These are all made of WIN! Trust me, you will feel better about everything -- including the holidays -- after reading these.

Alas, other readers do not seem to share my opinion, so as a warning, I reproduce here a certain Letter to the Editor showing the possible consequences of letting the unprepared, the unwary (or perhaps just the hoplessly repressed) read this latest issue of "Magical Magazine":

Magical Magazine
Letters to the Editor

Sirs,

Whilst I have never condoned the sort of prurient inanity and bawdy fabrications which pass as ‘journalism’ in your publication, I was willing to believe that it was, like the Glamorganshire Bog Slug, loathsome, odiferous and unfit for polite company, but relatively harmless. I am no longer of that opinion.

I point with especial condemnation to your latest issue, the close perusal of which has apparently driven my family to complete insanity. Last evening, I discovered my wife – previously a sensible and discerning matron – awaiting me in our marital bed completely starkers but for some melted Honeydukes’ Best and a pair of greased wellies. My daughter, once a promising and studious young witch, is now running about the place with pink hair and a banana in her knickers, declaring her intent to fornicate her way from Dover to Helsinki and there obtain work as a ‘den-mother’ to a colony of shirt-lifting werewolves and Viking re-enactors.

Everything, as they say, has gone pear-shaped, and I lay the blame squarely upon your magazine. It’s this sort of irresponsible journalism with its libertine ‘reporters’, salacious subject matter and criminally unrestrained alliteration which is ruining the youth of Wizarding Britain and confusing the morals of its elders, and it can no longer go without censure.

You will be hearing from my solicitor.

Cordially,

Mr. Archibald Kerfluffle

Ah Christmas! Even with finals looming and books, articles and notes for paper strewn all over the house instead of tinsel, I do love me some Christmas. And Saturnalia, Yule, Chanuka, Kwanzaa, Solstice, etc. I mean, honest, I'm not picky, I'll celebrate whatever winter festival you've got. Call it what you like, just give me the food, the pretty lights, the greenery, the cold weather, the hot tipples, and I'm happy. I've learned that Fandom makes the holidays even better because there is wonderful fic! Yes, we may decry the proliferation of fests and the inability to read everything we want to, but like any buffet, when I sample something I love, I can't help but stagger over to friends and go "Have you tried the ____? You must! Go, get some before it's gone!" The wonderful thing about fic and art is that there is always enough of each for everyone to sample. (And the stuff keeps better than fruitcake, even, so it's always there!)

Despite the fact I am very, VERY behind on keeping up with everything and anything due to school, I thought I'd point folks toward these two pieces, which are now -- metaphorically, at least -- but smears on my colorful holiday-themed paper plate. Really, you must go try them.

Getting In On The Christmas Spirit by [info]iamisaac This is over at [info]daily_deviant and is based on my prompt (which I didn't realize anyone had taken). I put "Panto" up as the prompt, simply because [info]blpaintchart had been trying to describe them to me. I now have MUCH BETTER idea of what a Panto probably is, and had a helluva good laugh, too. This is funny and silly and hot (because there's smex, of course) and has naked bums and Sirius singing hippogryph carols and a stunningly hysterical cameo from Walburga Black's portrait. Really, go check this out. It's the sort of British Christmas cheer you don't find in Dickens, and really, it's good to expand our horizons, isn't it?

The Inverse of Hormesis by Anon (for Snupin Santa)
I haven't sampled nearly enough of the soon-to-be groaning board at the [info]lupin_snape Snupin Santa fest, and hopefully I will have time to read and rec some more (I did mention finals, right?) but this is just a gem of a story. This fic combines so many things I love about this pairing -- witty banter, tea and biscuits, a huffy, intellectual Snape, a Lupin who is far more devious than he looks (and than any Gryffindor should probably be), an adversarial relationship that develops into something more, delicious smex -- with so many other things that I just plain love: used bookstores, WALES and sharp, well-paced, beautifully written prose. (It also has a title that my infernally picky Advanced Fiction prof would probably love.)

So, go heat up a mug of gluhwein or hot spiced cider, get yourself a plate of your favorite holiday cookies, take a seat and enjoy these lovely stories. Just don't be sipping your drink while reading the first one, I'll warn you about that right now. ;-)

Dec. 3rd, 2008 @ 02:37 pm Masturbation Confirmation and Industrial Pink Soap FTW!
How ridiculous is it that I'm so excited to have actual confirmation from a guy that high school boys actually do jerk off in locker rooms and bathroom stalls? And that they use that liquid pink hand soap as lube? And that apparently, at least for some of them, the scent has erotic connotations?

Well, at least I'm pretty sure it's confirmation. This wonderful nugget of slash-applicable wisdom is in a story I'm currently critiquing, and since the writer is a guy and is into gritty realism, I'm pretty sure it's based on experience. Believe me, I will be listening very carefully tomorrow to see if any of the other guys in fiction class say anything about it. Hee hee hee!

Of course, now I want to write a locker room jerk off scene with pink soap. Sigh. It will just have to wait till all my critiques and revisions are done.

Nov. 26th, 2008 @ 05:46 pm Happy Birthday to Lee!
Tis the wonderous [info]snegurochka_lee's birthday, and I'm going to file the serial numbers off the clever [info]alisanne's idea and, instead of writing something (which would be utter crap because pretty much all my creative energies are focused on final papers at the moment,) I'm going to take the opportunity to rec a little something the birthday girl wrote:

Crash

It's Snape/Black, and the first thing of Lee's I ever read. I still think it's one of the coolest pieces of short fiction -- not just fanfic, but any fiction -- I've read. It's short, sharp and beautiful. Even if you don't read Snape/Black, do yourself a favor and check it out.

Hope you have a wonderful birthday, Lee!

Oh yeah, and have a smexy, celebratory icon, too. ;-)
About this Entry
Nov. 23rd, 2008 @ 06:07 pm You people have spoiled me
I participated in my first upper division fiction workshop this semester. It has been, to say the least, intensive. I've had to read and write critiques for 3-5 student stories per week. (These vary in quality, btw, from "God, I wish I'd written this" to "I have read better stuff by 14 year olds on FFnet".) I have consistently gotten As on my crits because of my 'close reading' and 'attention to authorial intent', but you know? When I critique those stories, I don't do a thing different than I would when I beta-read. So, in other words, I got those top marks because of fanfic -- writing it, reading it, beta-reading it.

Of course, my stories get critiqued as well. While I almost always get some good concrit I can use to make the stories better, there are always people who really don't aspects of my work, especially when I'm trying to be subtle or give subtextual detail. Sometimes, this is my fault, but other times I can tell they just aren't picking up on these story elements. (Fortunately, my professor gets them, and that's what counts -- at least as far as my grades are concerned.)

Which is what brings me to the 'spoiling' part. Granted, fanfic readers start out with a lot more information than if you just pick up a fiction journal and start reading stories. Even taking that into account though, I have to say that the level of reader sophistication here is very, very high. I see it a lot of the commentary I read, both on my own stories and on others (or so I recall from times past when I actually had time to read and write fanfic. ^__-)

During a conference, asked my professor if she thought I needed to make my fiction more 'accessible'. She just shook her head and said "Never write 'down' to your audience."

Which, really, I already knew, because it's what I've learned here.

And yeah, that makes me feel a bit guilty for pretty much abandoning fandom this semester; but then it also gives me a reason to look forward to getting back to it, as well. ;-)

Nov. 23rd, 2008 @ 12:53 am Signs of So-Called Life
Believe it or not, I am alive. I almost posted earlier this week when I sent in my (very late) Snupin Santa (HP exchange) fic because OMG it was DONE and I was FREE FREE FREE at last!!! I could catch up on my f-list. I could SLEEP! And then I remembered I had to read and write critiques on five student stories, write four late critiques from the week before, study for a math test, read two of Aeschylus' tragedies and produce a five-page paper on the Odyssey all within... two days.

Yeah.

By Friday morning I'd been up for over 36 hours, and this was on top of getting only about eight hours of sleep in the three days before that. I'm pretty sure I flunked my math test that morning, and I probably shouldn't have told my Classical Myth professor that I was looking forward to doing my 20 page Senior Seminar paper with far more alacrity than the 10-page final paper for his class. At that point, however, I just really didn't care. I was practically giddy with delight because, reading and papers notwithstanding, I had no written assignments due until Dec 4th and OMFG I REALLY COULD SLEEP!!!! FINALLY!

And that's what I did. I got home by about 2:00 pm, slept until 6:00, was awakened by friends who wanted to take me to dinner, managed to rouse myself enough to do so, came home, fell asleep on top of some Bleach djs (another small pleasure I'd been denying myself for far too long), woke up at 10:30 AM still in my clothes and -- despite my best intentions otherwise -- have been a napping, brain-dead slug for most of the day. I did manage to get 2 loads of laundry done. Tomorrow I'll try and tackle some cleaning. I thought about trying to write -- you know, something that doesn't have a deadline?</i> -- but I think those creative muscles must need a break because it just wasn't happening.

Anyway, whew! I am alive and am giving myself a couple of days break. So... did I miss anything interesting?

I seem to be doing memes lately, which isn't something I normally do. I think I did this one because I liked the cartoons. The result isn't a shocking revelation, of course, but it's fun to reconfirm these things now and again.

Your result for Howard Gardner's Eight Types of Intelligence Test...

Linguistic

"Verbal-linguistic intelligence has to do with words, spoken or written. People with verbal-linguistic intelligence display a facility with words and languages. They are typically good at reading, writing, telling stories and memorizing words and dates. They tend to learn best by reading, taking notes, listening to lectures, and via discussion and debate. They are also frequently skilled at explaining, teaching and oration or persuasive speaking. Those with verbal-linguistic intelligence learn foreign languages very easily as they have high verbal memory and recall, and an ability to understand and manipulate syntax and structure.

Careers which suit those with this intelligence include writers, lawyers, philosophers, journalists, politicians and teachers." (Wikipedia)
